Tackle that suits

Detail
Hooks 10-18. Barbless fly hooks. Dry fly hooks (light wire), nymph hooks (heavier, curved shank)
Mainline WF5-6. Weight Forward floating. Fly line matched to rod weight - floating line for most situations
Hooklength 3-6lb tippet. 9-12ft. Tapered leader to fine fluorocarbon tippet (4X-6X)
Shotting Weighted nymphs (bead heads) or split shot 12 inches above the fly. No weight for dry fly fishing.
Field notes Presentation is everything - a perfect drift matters more than fly pattern; Approach from downstream and cast upstream - fish face into the current; Match the hatch - observe what insects are on the water before choosing a fly; Fine tippets (5X-6X) are essential in clear water and for selective fish; Dawn and dusk hatches are the prime feeding windows; A drag-free drift is the single most important factor in dry fly fishing

Fish welfare

Warm water is hard on brown trout. The app warns from 18°C and tells you to consider not targeting them at 21°C.

Brown trout stress above 18°C. Fish at dawn and dusk in heatwaves, use barbless hooks, and release quickly with wet hands.
